POOP QUESTION

Linda G Jan 05, 2011 08:35 PM

Hi all,

How often do BDs generally poop? Mine seems to poop only every 2 weeks or so. There is no way she would have ingested anything foreign and she eats a variety of greens and veggies. She gets salad everyday(turnip, mustard, collard, and all kinds of veggies along with a little fruit on ocassion) along with 2-3 supermealworms. She is not interested in crickets.

I double checked the temps and everything seems in order with basking at 112 and cooling off through the 4 foot long cage. My reptile room is heated to 85 degrees so nights are even kept warm. When she does poop it looks normal and is large. She is much more active than she was before I took her in She gets her pool one time a week for soaking.

Should I be concerned?

Thanks, Linda

I wouldn't be worried. My adult dragon didn't poop any more often than yours, and each poop was large, wet and well digested. If it was coming out looking very hard or exceptionally smelly...it would be more of a concern.

Only thing about your setup that should be chanced is the overnight temperature. Temps in the cage should drop to about 70-75F at least. Since you heat your reptile room to 85F this isn't allowing temps to get low enough for dragons at night. They like night time drops to pretty much normal human room temperature (ranging from 65-75F).

Thank you

I have a uromastyx and box turtle in my reptile room as well. I will say that since I started heating the room to this temp my uro has not brumated. I will take your advice and check the temps in his cage overnight. I am sure they are dropping as the temps I mentioned is with this heated room as well as his lights.
