WOW....
I see Mountain Kings got their own too......

I would've thought that they (KS) would have combined Alterna & Mountain Kings with Mexicana.....But it should make it easier for buyers to find exactly what they are looking for with them all separated, eh?

Where do we place Ruthveni ads?
Mexicana, Mountain or Kingsnakes?......LOL
I think they belong in the Mexicana section.......

I just read this up at the top of the classifieds......I guess KS thinks that Ruthveni belong here too.....LOL

Thayers,Greers, Ruthvens & Mexicana Kings:

I wish they would have made a hybrid section too so we don't see Thayeri/Pyro X Greeri/Zonata posted in the Mexicana section.......

I agree with Aaron, They should have their own section. I don't believe it should be FEEDERS or ADOPTIONS, but I don't believe they should be lumped in with everything else either.

Neither do I believe the word "pure" should ever be used with any mexicana listing.

I also expect everyone to have their own opinion about it, and they should be free to express it without getting heat for keeping hybrids.

You know some of the things that raise my ire; calling something by a name it is not, and ragging on people for doing what they want, whether that be locality breeding or raising hybrids.

But if you see any commercial collectors that run through New Mexico and Arizona and still pick up snakes on the roads in Texas and sell them on Kingsnake.com, you should report them, get them arrested, and thrown in jail, because they reflect badly on our community.

It was a pastel king Michelle, but I agree with Joe and Aaron......

There's nothing wrong with folks keeping and breeding hybrids just as long as they aren't trying to pull the wool over a buyer's eyes. Separating them would direct those that actually want a hybrid straight to where the hybrids are sold....that is it.

And Joe....You are right, our Mexicana are so far removed from the wild it is almost impossible to use the word "pure" anymore. Hell...it is impossible really.....

We should use terms like untainted or never been crossed with another species or subspecies.....and only if you know all of the above to be true......

Placing those reputable breeder's names (lineage) in the ads are all we can really do......And hope none of folks ever got animals that were crossed in captivity......They even cross in the wild and until we can collect in Mexico again and have true locality data this is all we can do........

I have one pair that I don't know the 100% true story behind and I have my reservations about them being called thayeri.....So I call them Generic Mexicana and I always will if I do not have 100% accurate lineage......

If all the mexicana heads keep sending them messages every time they post a hybrid in our classified section, they might get the idea and stop posting them there.

Yeah....I used to do that, but then I thought to myself...."Who made me the police?......"
Now I don't anymore.....It's not my job or place in my opinion.....

I think a hybrid classifieds would have been the most important thing they could have added. IMHO alot more important than giving mexicana and mountain kings their own sections.

I see two reasons. I always get kinda ticked off when I see alterna x thayeri, alterna x ruthveni, etc. posted in the alterna section, so there's one reason.

The second reason is actually the most important, which is it would give hybrids more respect. Although I don't care for them myself, I respect others right to work with them. Giving them their own section would lend them respect, making it more likely that people would "admit" they were hybrids. I have always thought the best way to "control" hybrids was to simply acknowledge that many people have an intrest in them and not try to stigmatize them. "Hating" on hybrids just makes people more likely to try to pass them off as pure.

Anyways, those are just my thoughts and I have never really cared enough to try and press kingsnake into doing anything about it.

I've cut numbers way down but still have too many, despite that it's very nice to not have to wade through endless other ads to find the good stuff.
