Male or female....

msmmarie Jan 07, 2011 09:15 PM

Hello all,

My little girl and I will be starting our search for a Beardie as I have finally found a home for our Uro's. She is obsessed with getting a female but I'm hesitant as I had a male before and thought he made a good single pet. Any recommendations between male or female for something that will be a pet to my little girl?

Thanks!!
Molly

Both males and females make excellent pets...there really isn't any personality difference between the two.

Yes, as PhldyPayne mentioned, they both make good pets. One thing to know about females, though, is that many will develop and lay eggs even if unmated. So you may be surprised if your female goes through an egg-laying cycle. It's normal but you must be sure to give extra calcium at those times. And one thing to be aware of with males, as they approach maturity, they may become excited just at their own reflection in the glass[ presuming part of your tank is glass] and get a little feisty trying to " get at" the " other" dragon, which is it's own reflection. My males never bite at all, even at these times, but can be a bit more restless as far as holding.
