best way to add flexwatt to ball rack

sflaskamp Jan 10, 2011 04:40 PM

I am building 4 six tub ball python racks and i am not sure what the best way to add the flex watt would be. should i go with back radiant heat or belly heat. and what would be the best way to wire it for the application. Thanks for any help.

belly heat is what everyone I've spoken to said to do.

Back heat is great if the room is heated already to around 75 deg or more. If the room gets cooler than that, better go with belly heat.

If you run a continuous piece threaded through the shelves, you only deal with a single plug. Certainly the cleanest-looking solution.

If you run individual pieces each with its own plug, you can unplug shelves not in use. But it is more wires to deal with. Easier to replace a single piece if need be. Less Flexwatt used overall.

Both have merits. Pick which you want.

I've always used flexwatt for belly heat. It transfers the heat directly to the bottom of the snake tub. If a rack isn't insulated well, much of the energy from back-heat can be lost. Both methods can work well when setup properly.
