I was watching the show Hoarders and one guy on there had 2000 "pet" rats that took over his home. I could think of a few good ways to lose a few. Just wondering if anybody else saw that episode?

I do not have access to TV, so I have never seen the show Hoarders.

You can buy frozen rodents, but you can NOT keep them in your freezer.

In my state, having frozen animals (irrelevant that they are food for another animal) in the freezer is positive proof that the FELONY crime of Animal Hoarding has occured.

Once a person has been found guilty of Animal Hoarding they can NEVER own, or have ANY contact with, any animals whatsoever for the rest of their lives. They cannot go to the zoo, or go to any animal performance (such as a circus or rodeo). If they so much as pet someone else's dog, then they must spend more time in jail.

What state are you in???

I am in Oregon, where the animal rights nuts are in control.

It is also a FELONY to have more than 10 animals aggregate per household, no matter how well maintained they are (though how the cattle ranchers get around that one, I have yet to figure out).

This is the quote where I learned that a maximum of only ten animals is all that is permitted in Oregon:

"County laws can hinder or help animal hoarding interventions as found in a recent case Oregon. The laws governing animal ownership and care were vague, providing that citizens could own as many animals as they could reasonably care for. It did not allow law enforcement to enter a home without probable cause for a search warrant in order to check on the care and welfare of the animals. Once an extreme case of animal hoarding had been uncovered and it became clear how the law inhibited intervention and actually enable the animal hoarding to continue, and the law was immediately changed. Now it allows for up to ten pets to be housed without a license. If over ten pets are owned, the house is regarded as a shelter and is subject to regular inspection without a search warrant."

can you tell me where I can find the exact wording for this law? Online or otherwise. I have only heard about pet animals found in freezer, not food items.

And as for the 10 animal rule... think I just became a non-adopting shelter..

Thanks,

I have been told that if I have any rats, or mice, in my freezer, that I will be arrested and jailed.

Then there was that woman, on the west side of the state, that had those rabbits, including some in the freezer, who was arrested for animal hoarding (the proof being the rabbits in the freezer). I find this case confusing when I compare it to 4-H and FFA kids who raise meat rabbits, then freeze the rabbit meat.

Then again, the animal rights nuts want every person, and every animal, to be vegen.
