Odd Female Behavior?

BrianT Jan 18, 2011 02:48 AM

I've had a pair of cresteds for a few months now and over the past 4 days I've noticed my female acting odd. In there enclosure is a large section of sphagnum moss about 8"x8"x4"h. Several days ago she dug into it throughout the night and has been chilling in there ever since. Sometimes I can see her head and other times she's completely hidden within her nest. Should I be looking for eggs or worried something is wrong? Both are adults and previous owner said they'd found eggs before.

Here's a pic of the enclosure. You can see the nest area in the lower left hand corner.

Egg laying usually only takes a couple hours, or over one night. If she's been in there for four days I would check on her and make sure nothing's wrong. It could just be she likes the place to pass the day. Make sure the cage isn't too dry as well, she could be entering a shed cycle.

The female may be taking a break from her cage mate in an area he doesn't usually bother her in or she may prefer the temp in that area better.
