Breeding Question

twillis10 Jan 22, 2011 01:05 PM

I have a quick question about breeding dumerils. Can you breed a male to more than one female? I know with red tails you can really just breed a male to one female. Just curious. thanks.

You can absolutely breed one male to a few different females. My preferred method is 1.3 breeding groups. Good luck!

Why is it that Red Tails can't be bred to multiple females? I wouldn't think in the wild a male would breed one female and then ignore any more receptive females who crossed his path.

My male Sanzinia is breeding 2 separate females on opposite days on a rotating basis and never misses an opportunity w/the ladies. I'd like to hear more about Red Tails' limitations?

I have bred redtails to more than one female, but I just kept the conversation in context of dumerils.

Kind of what I thought. Can't imagine a big ol' male Red Tail not breeding multiple females if given the opportunity. Now, if I can somehow keep my male Acrantophis from trying to kill the female someday I'll get some results from these rodent inhaling beasts. I did throw a shed from the female in w/him but he blew right past it to the door looking for food.

I think I'll feed them really well over the next year and hopefully w/one more year of maturity other things will kick in w/proper cycling. Still odd that a simple cage change irrevocably changed his demeanor.

Yeah, that situation is strange. Sometimes they do get into a "feed me" mode, but it doesn't usually last that long. I've had them behave that way when they're too warm as well. Hopefully you get him figured out and end up with a nice litter of Dumerils from him. There's still plenty of time this season.
