eggs are popping...

DreamWorks Jan 30, 2011 06:47 PM

Raz and Mandi-Moon babies are starting to hatch.

Pretty excited!!

Had Mandi (mom) outside today getting some sun. Sun had an intensity of 200 w/cm2

The 10.0 repti sun bulbs are putting out 12 w/cm2. 18 inch bulb at 6 inches away.

What you can do also is get the aluminum tape at Home Depot and create a reflector behind the UVB bulb which nearly doubles your UVB.

Freed a little bird that got caught in my screenroom also:

Those 10.0 reptisun bulbs are pretty expensive to only emit 9-10w/cm2 of UV intensity.

seems virtually insignificant

The UVB mercury vapor bulb I tested today was putting out 45w/cm2 at 6 inches.

I live down here in Tampa Florida and it was 70 degrees and cloudless today. 200w/cm2

Cheers

Very nice Wayne, they look like they are going to be nicely colored. Good to put the dragons out in the sun. I do all spring through fall. By the way, what type of Mercury vapor bulb do you use ?

I believe the MVB is a powersun.

I will have to look and double check. I have gone through a lot of bulbs. I will find out the ones that have worked best for me. 2 in particular and post the bulb brands... thanks for the good wishes

thanks for the info on the aluminum tape...never thought of that...great idea! i need to build a screen cage for outdoors so i can put my dragons out...we have a lot of lightning bugs in the summer and i heard they can poison your dragon pretty quickly, and grusomely

unfortunately yes, the lightning bugs are pretty toxic

Use a screen like window screen (very fine) it will still allow a good deal of light pass through. I should have checked today inside the screen room with the meter to see the difference.

We have love bugs down here but I have not heard of anyone having had any problems... although they look like they are very similar to lightning bugs.

I wonder if there is a anti love bug serum that could be concocted... basically... if you saw one get eaten do a massive fluid flush and wash it through.

Just a thought.
