Savu off feed

curaniel Feb 01, 2011 12:04 AM

My Savu python has been off feed for a month now. Suddenly she's way more interested in trying to bite me than she is striking and wrapping a mouse. She doesn't even aim for the prey anymore; it's straight for the hand holding the hemostats! She used to be an easy, powerhouse eater. A few weeks back I got a new, larger viv for her, so maybe some of it is stress from a new enclosure, but this problem started before I switched her over to the new digs, so I'm not really sure what's going on. I've been careful about temps and even added more "furniture" for her to hide in. She's got a nice thick layer of aspen to burrow in as well. I've only handled her once since the move out of necessity because I don't want to add more stress. I've got a mouse baking in with her right now in hopes she'll just take it later tonight while the house is sleeping. No weight loss, so I'm not too worried about that, but it's just so out of character. She's always been feisty, but this is ridiculous! Any ideas are appreciated!

I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. She didn't take the mouse I mentioned in the original post and she refused another one yesterday!

Try a rat or ASF!

She's always eaten mice with no problem at all. I'm inclined to think there's something wrong with my husbandry that I'm missing. She still hasn't fed, and it looks like tonight is going to be another refusal. This is a snake who used to take three mice in one sitting!

Joining this thread a little late... Has she eaten yet? Tell us more about your husbandry and post some pics of your set up. Also, start weighing her regularly if you haven't already.
