Do you add water to mealworm culture?

Lia Feb 01, 2011 01:13 PM

Hi
Do you add water to mealworm culture or are moist carrors added weekly enough?

I am setting up a small bin now with oatmeal as substrate ,some paper towels but as far as water goes I was thinking that wet carrot added weekly would be enough?

Thanks

Adding water would probably make your bedding get moldy. Potatoes are a good source of water for you mealworms.

Oatmeal will keep your mealworms going but is not a very good gutload for feeding them to your reptiles.

My recipe;

1 box each of the 4 Gerber powdered baby foods.
An equal amount of oatmeal, whole wheat flour, bran and ground parakeet seed (this can be processed in a blender or food processor). I also add Ol' Roy dry dog kibble.

Your mealworms will thrive on this and it will provide much better nutrition for your herps.

Hope this helps,
