Sanzinia Hook-Up

vegasbilly Feb 05, 2011 10:49 AM

At the tail end of brumation (no pun intended) and he's still working the ladies. He's tied-up w/both females 3 times each that I've witnessed. I've pulled him for 2-3 day periods throughout the cooling period which seems to re-spark his interest after things slow down. A good heavy misting after a dry period of 4-5 days also seems to reignite his ardor! This was taken this morning. Let the finger-crossing begin!

Bill, how low did you go on the NTL and how high for the DTH and for how long? You really have proven yourself with tropical high humidity type species ( corallus, boiga, and sanzinia) while residing in a difficult dry area like las vegas. Norm

Thanks for the very kind words Norm! Humidity maintenance is a constant issue here as you so correctly pointed out.

I dropped them into the high 60s for 3 weeks then gradually over the following 2 weeks got them to 58F. Held that for 3 weeks. DTH was only 70F throughout. I also dropped the light cycle to 8 hour days w/the night drop commencing at 4PM and "warm-up" at 8AM. Misting w/a heavy droplet setting every 4 days w/a dry-out in between.

Odd thing is I thought they were done and have started the gradual warm-up. NTL adjusted back to the mid 60s and the DTH back to 74F....and they've been locked up now today for 8 hrs. Another thing, this trio has been together all year w/none of the play-copulating Sanzinia are known for...nothing happened at all until the brumation cycle was almost 4 weeks long. I also pulled the male after 3 days each time..for 4 day periods..which always resulted in renewed courting.

Followed almost the exact routine w/my Bar Necks..just not as severe in the NTLs. So cool to see the Morelia breeding in the top cage at the same time the Sanzinia are getting busy in the bottom cage!

Thanks for the reply!
please keep us posted.
also even though this is the tree boa forum i am pretty sure
an extra shot of your boigas and morelias would be appreciated by most.
