Postcards From Maine... Last Ones

gerryg Feb 06, 2011 03:13 PM

Well these are the ones I had planned when I first started back in December... didn't quite make it through all the dreary winter months but it did pass some of the time and hopefully kept some of you entertained.

Have a few unknowns in this bunch, any of you more adept in Mycology than I am please enlighten me... used to know what that fish was... back when I was 24, at 52 though the name is seemingly long gone from my memory

More great pics, as usual. Is that Wood Lily uncommon in Maine? I believe some type Wood Lily occurs in Mid Tennessee Limestone outcropping areas; never seen one that I remember. Supposed to be rare if I have the right flower in mind. Thanks for the post.

The Wood Lily is fairly common here in Maine, despite the name it is almost always found in open fields with sandy soil or along road sides.

It does occur down into Kentucky so Tennessee is certainly not out of the question. I similar species, the Southern Red Lily, does grow in the south but I'm uncertain as to how far north it ranges.
