Utila Island Iguana

jerry d. fife Feb 09, 2011 12:02 PM

Not much going on in the forum so I thought I would post that I got eggs from my Utila Island iguana (C. bakeri). It's only been a couple weeks but so far they look good.

Is anyone aware of any other captive breeding in the US of this species?

Ive been hatching bakeri since 2001. Some of my offspring can be seen at the Fort Worth Zoo in Texas and the Sedgewick Zoo in Kansas.

PS, How did you get a hold of some bakeri?

I figured you might be working with them, but wasn't sure. We were able to get a small group of them out of Europe. They are a great lizard, seem very friendly unlike many ctenosaura species.

True, they are very calm and personable lizards with the exception of the one in the photo. He is a mean bastard. Are these European lizards from a zoo or a private breeder? I'm curious if yours are descendants from the bakeri that Gunther Kohler brought back from Utilla in the late 90's.
