vinyl wallpaper as a background???

Calebjg Feb 12, 2011 03:44 PM

Has anyone tried this?I found some really nice tropical wallpaper. It says vinyl coated and washable.I was thinking even if it didnt work If I buy a whole roll I can replace it and then cover it with some eigth inch plexiglass but I think that would put a glare on it from the lighting.

Its for a Jungle carpet display cage.

Haven't tried. Just thought I'd add that if you do use it, make sure the adhesive is fully cured and doesn't smell strong before placing a snake in the cage.

I've never tried wallpaper over wood. Does that work well?

Only if the surface has a smooth finish, like urethane or some other treatment.

The adhesive used in wallpaper is designed to provide contact adhesion between two smooth surfaces. This is why borders don't don't work well in textured homes. It's not designed to bond to the porous surface like a contact cement.

Vinyl film is the same way designed for smooth surfaces.

I work in signage and you can get vinyl prints made up which you can apply to the back board of your enclosure. It can be laminated so it lasts longer and is also safer for the snake. You can use plexiglass to cover it and to remove the "glare" just lay a matte finish vinyl over this.

Thanks, I dont think that the adhesive on the wallpaper is toxic. In fact I dont think it will probably stick at all on wood thats why I was askiing.I was hoping someone had done it.
I doubt I could find any matte finish, it sounds complicated.
