hi,my cyclura has some dried skin on his tail and it dosent come off when he sheds so I have been using Aquaphor on it and I am waiting for results. I just want to see if there are any other solutions for it.
Thanks cyclura21

short term, a bathtub - that's treating the symptom
long term, more humidity - that's the real problem and the #1 killer of captive iguanas, long term dehydration.

dont mean to be abrupt but that's really it.

I usually soak the greens in warm water before feeding them to my green.... It really make them crisp up and the extra water that is on the cut greens helps keep my green hydrate. You can do this with any greens you buy from the supermarket and pad them dry with a towel or paper towel before putting them in the fridge. It makes them last longer. I don't bother to dry them when feeding them to my green.... This way he gets the water on the leaf. On extra hot days, I give them fruits for extra moisture in addition to the water bowl I put in his cage.

Feeding him some yellow and orange color veggies help iguanas shed better. They contain beta-carotene and vitamin A necessary for healthy and vibrant skin. Winter squash seems to be the best to use and contain a lot of roughage and carbohydrate, that they also really need. Mine loves butternut squash, especially if I microwave it a little after I grate it. You can use carrots and yam, too, but carrots is kindda high in calcium oxalate and yam also has a lot calcium oxalate and it is also not as nutritious as the squash. The carbohydrate provides a lot of fuel for the metabolisms, and hence, I think, helps with the hormonal balance.
