Eggs being laid outside egg box

perfectpredators Feb 18, 2011 02:00 PM

i may have a bad egg laying box, ive had more than a couple of eggs found outside the box. luckily 1 pair i found right way, another pair of eggs was behind a structure and dried up. can anyone post a picture of a successful egg laying container to help poor old manny here? and let me know what substrate has worked best for them? Thank you. Manny

I have had great success with rubbermaid containers with a hole cut in the lid. I just use coconut fiber and get it nice and moist. It usually stays moist for 2 weeks but since im checking it daily i feel it too check and if it is too dry I give it a spray. My females has laid it in 3 times already. Humidity is important. The box should always be a little more moist then the cage. The gecko will almost always choose it over anywhere else

I use sandwich sized plastic containers filled with a sand/soil mix dampened so it clumps together nicely when squeezed but won't ooze any water. I also only had a paper towel substrate for the rest of the cage, so the egg laying bin was the only idea area to lay eggs.
