Hormonal Female Behavior

cherylk Feb 19, 2011 08:49 AM

Does anyone know the real reason why hormonal females actually try to breed to other females? And yes, they are females, all proven breeders that have laid clutches before. I have my theories, but just wanted to see if any other veteran dragon owners had a logical explantion.

I don't know if there are any vets on this forum. I would listen the people on this forum before I listened to a vet. (when dealing with bearded dragons)

Females dominate other females tricking them to cycle an infertile clutch, increasing their own chance of breeding with local males. classic dominate female behaviour.

You must have mis read the vet part, I didn't mis spell veterinarian, I wrote veteran (from Latin vetus, meaning "old" is a person who has had long service or experience in a particular occupation or field. Which basically describes you in regards to bearded dragons, so I won't make fun of you for not reading it right.

Thank you for that logical explanation. Makes perfect sense now seeing how their behavior is mainly dominance driven for their survival. I really appreciate the insight.

lol I thought it was a weird request from you. Now it all makes sense. I answered before I had coffee.

ha ha That's okay, I couldn't figure out what you were talking about and had to go back and read what I wrote.

I'm just happy I didn't get a bunch of people telling me to learn how to sex my dragons, it has had me second guessing them on occasion.
