For females I recommend they should be at least 15 months old though 18 is best. No older than 6 years (though females can and do produce eggs after this...often fertility is greatly reduced by this time). Females should also be at least 350g...and receive a vet examination and have a fecal done before being bred (or brumated, if they are brumated first)

Males should be at least 12 months old and a good healthy weight for their size/age...300g plus is good weight to go by. They should also be a similar size to the female. It is also a good idea to have the male be inspected by a vet too to ensure complete health etc.

Younger males could be used though to me 12 months ensures full maturity. Males can be sexually mature as young as 6 months, but I don't see any reason to rush them into breeding...older females may be less inclined to let an inexperienced young male to breed with them.

I've found that they can be bred at 10 months.

but 10 months isn't recommended for females. Males I would still recommend waiting a full year
