Dumeril's popularity

johnthebaptist Feb 27, 2011 08:09 PM

I came across my dumerils in a very lucky way. A friend of mine who owns a rescue had a healthy juvenile that needed a home. I payed $50 and have loved them since. Being a snake enthusiast i had always heard about them but never saw one outside of photo's. Fast forward to today. I was at the reptile show and i saw atleast 4 adults for sale and handfuls of babies. This is a huge deal considering for many years id never see one and for the past few months ive only seen a baby here and there. Also a local pet store i go to has a dumerils for sale. It appears they are getting pretty popular. Atleast in my area.

I think their popularity varies by region/state. Here in Oklahoma, you see very few Dums/MGBs/MTBs for sale at shows. I can count on one hand how many MGBs/MTBs I have seen at shows in this state in the last 10yrs.

Even Dums are still not that common around here.

Thats about the way it is here too. There are a couple people in Oklahoma working with Dums. But not many.

I find it amazing that Dumerils Boas aren't more prominent in the snake industry. Dumerils are easy to care for, have a great temperament, have a cool pattern, and stay a manageable size. Maybe it's because there aren't all the designer morphs common in Ball Pythons and Boa Constrictors.
