Collared Lizard Cage on wheels...

reptoman Feb 28, 2011 05:42 PM

Here is a newer cage that I converted to a push out cage. I have now completely moved away from lighting and using cages that I just push out on the patio near the Mountain Laurel Tree and works great. I have experimented with cages and this design is very awesome because they do get direct sun on half the cage, the screen is a special animal proof screen that is vinyl coated and heavy, it has some sun blocking to it and the lizards just seem to do very well with this design. This cage will house my reticulated colalred lizards until the end of the year, at which time they will go back to Parks or a Zoo...

Lou,

Looks good. I will keep my retics outside most of the time during our study. Your design is nice. Just remember and keep a watch out for those fire ants. They can smell dead crickets or mealworms and make their way into the cage easily. I often have to put the legs of my outdoor cages into little jars filled with water to keep the ants from climbing up into the cages. It is something to seriously keep a watch over.

Hope that we have a good year.

You right about fire ants. So far I have never had an issue with them on the driveway, partly because the concrete is so hot, I also don't leave anything over night in the cage I usually watch them eat, if they don't get that last one then I remove it. I am always on the lookout.

GOOD JOB Lou, yeah , looks like John C's yard he wheels them all out in the mornign and back in the garage at night. great idea, easy, very efficient.

In my yard I have big hawks come right down and sit and watch my lizards. I walked out just in time a few years back before it got into my cages and feasted on my kids. Since then I have to put all the make shift sun cages in large dog kennels and latch doors shut. The big hawks can't get into the kennels, but they still come around and watch. :0(

Look great Lou

Nice looking unit you've built there but looks like it needs an engine and some paint you'd have the MotoLizard cage system, lol.
