O.K., This really is it

Some of us have seemingly made it through the winter as is evident by the recent salamander and corn snake posts... so in hopes of warding off any more snow and the winter doldrums here in Maine I've put together one last post... really this is it... for the winter season at least.

And before anyone mentions it... Yes I know starfish don't stay together as families but it sure looks like a family unit in the photo.

Looks like they are holding hands around their baby. Nice picture.

I live on the West coast near the ocean. Very often we see groups of sea stars all piled up on and against one another, while the rest of the rock ledge has none.

Nice pics! I like 15 and 22 the best.

always nice to hear a kind word, even better when it comes from one of the "silent majority" that has found something he likes well enough to log in for.

Wish the pic of the Round Leaved Orchis were better as it is a beautiful orchid. In the thick gloomy beech woods they prefer the white flower stalk stands out from a long way off. I did try to get some better ones this year but didn't see a single one even though I visited areas where I have always seen them in years previous... with the exception of the Pink Lady's Slipper most of the orchids native to Maine seem to be on the decline.
