What would be a good indoor enclosure size? I am pretty limited to space, so let me know what minimum sizes are. They are too cool not to own.

Thank you

Could it free roam with my male green iguana?

First off this is not a knock against you personially more just an observation. Why do people always come on to these forums (and its done an all of them) and ask whats the minimum I need for (insert animal here). You know what i've never heard whats the maximum space I can give them. Why do you want to get an animal that is "too cool not to own" but then only give it the minimum space necessary. What if i would to say their minimum space is 20 foot by 20 foot to be perficially honest thats not unreasonable. We give our lewisi 40 foot by 20 foot and they utilize every inch of it. I've said it before and i'll say it again the point of this hobby is not to have as many animals as you can in as small a space as you can. If you only want to give it the minimum then its probibally not the animal for you.

I have noticed that too. I ask to make sure I can make sure his space needs are fulfilled. I don't want to buy something and put it in an environment too small. All about research and asking experts (=

I have gotten answers from 4' X 6' X 4' all the way to what you described now. As far as lizards go, there is almost no enclosure too big!

My main concern was the co-existence with other iguanas. My boy (green) has a 11' X 10' room with lots of shelves. I was curious if they would be fine together in that space with separate food/basking/hiding.

Myles, I was told by a highly reknowned and respected Cyclura expert (who shall remain nameless) that my Lewisi hybrid and my green could likely co-exist just fine in a free roaming situation and for a while it worked out well. My green male was always up high on a shelf or in his tree while my female Lewisi hybrid was on the ground. Everything was great *UNTIL* my male green had his first breeding season. My female Cyclura wasn't old enough to know what he was up to and, even if she had been, their breeding cycles do not correspond. Fortunately for my Lewisi, she was bigger than my green and was able to defend herself from my green's advances. However, she removed several of his toes in the process. Still, I was relieved since it could have been a whole lot worse. If my Cyclura had been the male and the green the female, I don't think the green would have had a chance and would have likely been very badly injured.

Something else to think about is keeping them "free range" in your house might give them the space they need but it won't give them the enviroment they need. Is your house kept at 90% humidity. How many 110 degree basking spots do you have inside your house? Is your living room 3 foot of dirt for it to burrow in? is everything in your house bolted to the floor or wall if not theres a good chance the iguiana will wedge behind something one day. A friend of mine used to think it was the coolest thing in the world that his green would lounge on the top of his big screen tv till it craped down the back of it one day.

My green ig is confined to one room. Not the entire house, there is a humidifier and 2 basking areas. Not to mention alot of shelves and other secure things for him to climb on. I do have sense to me (=
