Incubator Vibration

Reptileszz Mar 06, 2011 04:48 PM

Hi all, didnt know where to ask this except in maybe EVERY species area hehe.

Years ago I was given a Lyon Reptilife incubator. I put it away and meant to use it for years but the Hovabators worked just fine. So this year I really really want to hatch out some Benti Uros (she lays every year but I have been unsuccessful in the incubation department.)

So I plugged in this really nice incubator and it seems to be working but the whole thing vibrates. Its a fine vibration likely caused by the fan but it is very noticable and I wonder if it would affect the eggs.

Any input on this?

Thanks,
Carole

I would look for screws mounting the fan assembly to the frame possibly. If there are screws there or anywhere else in the unit make sure they're snug...the rotary motion of the fan coupled with loose screws could be cause of the vibration.

Good suggestions. I was think that placing it on a thick, firm rubber matt might help. It would reduce the effects of the vibration, but wouldn't stop it.

Thanks guys. Will check the screws and perhaps put in weatherstripping. It was vibrating on carpet so not sure if a rubber mat would help. And I dont have one

Thanks!

One other thing you can do is take the screws out and add rubber washers so the connection isn't metal on plastic or plastic on plastic when the screws are tightened..it will be rubber on metal which should absorb some of the vibration.
