gulf coast box turtle

TerryO Mar 09, 2011 09:19 AM

Someone is giving me a Gulf Coast Box Turtle, and I am not really familiar with this species. I live in New York, and all my boxies hibernate except for my Ornate. Does anyone know if these boxies can hibernate outside in the cold NY weather

Maybe, but I wouldn't chance it. I've always hibernated mine in a slightly-ventilated plastic box in the refrigerator from October to April. That way you know that there will never be a deep, killing freeze, and you can control when they go to sleep and when they wake up.
