Housing Feedback Please

madeline0burns Mar 10, 2011 12:53 PM

So I was just curious as to what y'all thought would be the best housing and cages to keep a retic in. Our little lavender guy is doing good, hes about 6-7 months old now about 4'-5' and we have got him in a 55 gal tote, that suits him well right now. We have looked around at vision cages, and we have hand made Boa cages 4'long x 3'deep that will house him when he gets a little bigger. But like I said, just would like to hear some feed back on cages, exsperiances or suggestions!!
Thanks!

I have used Visions for many years and prefer them for larger snakes. They are tough, durable, and have good re-sale value. I really like the sliding glass doors with solid tracks. They give you good control over large snakes, especially at feeding time as opposed to swing out doors. Visions one piece construction makes them waterproof. Vision cages are known for not holding humidity very well. I cover most of the vent areas with plexiglass so mine hold humidity very well. There are a lot of good cage makers out there and each has their ups and downs. For me Visions work very well and I keep buying them. Bill

I also use Vision and have since the day I got mine. Been in the 6ft cage from day one. I also have an Animal Plastic cage and a boaphile that I keep other things in. The post is right above that you have to block the vents on the cage to hold the humidity. Also, vision to me has been a little expensive and if you need to ship it forget it. But over all a great cage and I have several of them. One down is I use heat panels and by doing this you need to square off the top. I have had them pulled down, cracked and stuck once. I still wonder about the sliding doors. My Retic us up at that door at feeding time and sliding that door open and then close just seems that there is a better way. Now the AP cage, I can use the heat panel and not worry about boxing it off since the top is flat, holds humidity great. Customer Service is A Plus and good price. Problem with that is it is heaver. The doors on my AP cage are open close not sliding and I like this much better since I can get behind the door when I drop something in. issue, they are heaver. Boaphile. Great cage, benefits of AP and light, but the door drops down. All great cages, its just a pref on what you like and want. I would recommend all three.

my preference at this time is AP; if I have to buy a really big cage (10x4) I may try boamaster as well.

We will be looking into all selection of cages, but we're not going to buy any just yet! Thank you all for your insight!
