New Nile crocodile enclosure

CDieter Mar 14, 2011 10:05 PM

We just finished it and have moved it's first inhabitants in. 3 ponds of varying depths. You can gauge the scale by looking at the croc on the hill. He is between 10-11ft.

Awesome!!! Cages like that are my ultimate dream/goal.

If you have crocs and your cages don't look like this you are keeping them wrong

Looks fantastic - glad to see the plans finally coming to fruition.
When do the palm trees get planted?

They are already in there. One is right above the head of the croc 3-4 on the back corner and a row of them in between the long pond and a pond you can't see in the photos. Canary Island date plams! Love those things.

I really like the eclosures wih the uneven ponds and banks that form visual barriers. I see that you've learned well that the fence with Niles and many crocs need to be as far from the fence line as posible. A lot of thought went into this and congrats on a job well done....

Hello,
The wooden fence with wires are sufficient? Or is there another larger barrier? We have much harder barriers where we keep them. Just wondering if we are putting too much work into the walls when this is all is really required.

CDieter Mar 28, 2011 08:11 AM

It's some pretty solid wood. Allot of 2 x 4's and 4 x4's and 4 x 6's. The wire is concrete wire which we have found is stronger than chain link of any strength we have used. It is much thicker. Works well when they bite on it as well as they can't twist it up like they can chain link.

This has worked well for us. There is no way they can move that fence.

Out of curiousity what are you using?
