Breeding size for female rosy

BeattyReptiles Mar 16, 2011 12:35 AM

I have a female rosy that weighs 222 grams. Is this big enough to breed? She is Southern Baja locale.

Thanks in advance.

How old is it? 3yrs is a good age.

Keep in mind that in the wild, if a female is cycling, then she is ready. However, captivity is usually sub-par as far as temps and such, so it may be best to go with the 3 yrs old rule for females.

In my experience, the rosy females that were at least 3 and nice and plump produced the biggest chubbiest babies. Plenty of heat should be available as well for the gestating female. I've bred them earlier and smaller, but the results weren't as good.
