Could Bogart, my prize male agalma be gay or asexual? He is a beautiful large Bartlett strain snake with wide clean white bands and a high ring count. This evening I put him with my prize female, Cynthia, also a high ring count Bartlett snake and small.
She is all over him but he is acting shy.
All my snakes will be 4 y.o. this summer.
Has anyone else experienced a shy male like this?

Maybe he is really a she? I was at first suspicious that my big female pyro Zunchara might actually be a male since when I put her in my confirmed male's cage mating did not occur right away like it did with the other female I had put in with him. But of late they have locked at least three times that I have seen, so my worries that she was a he have been relieved.

...i understand that females have a sharper transition between the body and tail.... without probing them is this a decent way to sex them or very inaccurate? also do males have a pronounced small lump in the region?

This is not mountain kings, but still is king snakes. Same rules should apply.

Female. Shorter tail and the tail sort of indents just aft of the vent.

Male. Longer tail and a slight bulge just aft of vent.
