Sexing spotted pythons

mike1234 Mar 29, 2011 01:11 AM

at a herp show on Sunday, I had the intentions of diving right into Aussie pythons. I had kept childrens before, but only a single snake. When I saw the only womas at the show were 450 at 3 months old because they had huge contrast, I figured it wasn't the place or time to get them. I then searched for a pair of childrens but again had no luck, all 3 were males. I finally found one of the snakes on my list, a pair of spotted pythons. The price was right at 150 for the pair. Theyre a male and female, but I forgot which was which. My question here is how would I go upon sexing them? The larger one is in the rang of 45 inches, smaller is 40.

If you don't know how to probe them please don't try. Put them together you may see the male spurring the female. The male should also have larger spurs. If you can't tell on your own take them to someone experienced and have them sex them for you.

I can probe, just figured there might be another way to sex them. I'm too used to hogs... how many scales for female, male?
