I think it's over....

Linda G Mar 29, 2011 09:15 AM

I don't believe it but I think hibernation is over for Baby T. She ate this morning! I couldn't believe my eyes! She ate a worm and a waxworm. I had them mixed with a little salad and fruit. I barely had placed the dish in there and walked away for a few minutes and when I peeked back in she was in the dish munching. I did another upgrade to her habitat and placed several more small plants in there on Sunday. She really seems more comfortable now. I brought her out of hibernation about 2 weeks ago.

Thanks to all again that helped me through the last 5 months. I am in awe that I successfully hibernated her and how well she seems to be doing now. I know it's the norm for many of you but it was a very scary time for me. It's nice to see her up and about.

Linda

Hey, congratulation! I was hoping yours will be OK.... For a while I thought he was a goner.... [chuckle] Keep up the good work!

I just recently got another baby box turtle. Traded my big male leopard gecko for it...a great trade, I say.

Hey that is great news!! I know how much you have worried about that litte guy. Hibernation does wonders. Before you know it he will be tracking your every move and begging for food.

Linda, this is good news! It's never a breeze to hibernate box turtles. Since I use a system where I can observe them-I check on them on average- bi-weekly all winter. They are also up now (I live in the Midwest)and my workload caring for them just expanded exponentially Tess

I did hibernate her indoors so I was able to check on her and monitor her weight.

What a difference now. She is up at the crack of dawn soaking and looking for food. She has quite the appetite and isn't shy at all to eat. Her eyes are brown that is why i think she may be female. Is this a good indication at this age? The other little one with her at the show was a little bigger and had red eyes already.

Thanks, Linda

I have a closed friend and neighbor, that is from the Mid-west...Minnesota to be exact. His name is Lane, he's of German decent. He's quite a bit older than I am because I'm relatively young...34. I hear it can get pretty cold over there, but I hear people there are nice.
