MY new rhino i got does not stay up very long . Today he fell asleep at 1 pm and will stay that way until the next morning . Usually he goes down at 3 pm and that it for the day . Tom recommended a backing temp at 120 . He has a 120 basking temp it warms the whole cage to 85-90 . Tomorrow i will lower the basking temps to 105 and the rest of the cage to 77-80 /- and see if he stays up longer . Not sure if i am getting enough UV ?? . I have a 100 watt basking bulb ( 120 under it ) next to it is a 125 watt exo-tera MVB ( its 90 -100 under it )and a zoo-med 10.0 ( i picked up today ) on the other side of the basking bulb 16'' above . In the morning he's very active , eats and basks , eat and basks and explores ,then at 1-3 pm he goes under the basking bench and falls asleep and he's done for the day . He's not panting as if he's too hot , he's eating good , not sneezing , just salting . any ideas ?? Do baby Rhino's normally fall asleep that early and stay down ?? The fist three weeks i though he did that to hide and was stressed, but now he eat while i watch and come to the glass and stares at me and doesn't seem stressed . He will even go down early if i am gone all day.

any ideas !!

Robert
As much as you dont believe it, you have a normal baby rhino. active in the morning and hiding in the day is normal. If he chooses to sleep he must be conmfy in his new home. Dont lower the basking temp. It actually does the opposite you think and besides its the right temp. As long as food goes in and comes out the other end, everything you describe is pretty normal. You need a few more lights ;p

Thanks JF

I had a baby rhino before but he acted totaly different than this one . he never turned dark , active all the time . But i found it wedged between a rock and wall dead . Not sure how he got there or why , but it sure broke my heart , he was coming along great too . So this is my secound one , and i am a little paranoid with this one . Two baby rhino's and the cage , so i have 900.00 invested in these little guys . I know thats a drop in the bucket compared to what you have in yours or other have . I just want to make sure all is well with this guy .
