Pregnant female

Stonefish13 Apr 19, 2011 05:54 PM

Hello all,

This is the first time I've ever had a pregnant dragon so I was wondering, how long before I should place her in the laying box if I can feel the eggs in her belly with my finger? I have a 40 gallon rubbermaid with mixed top soil and sand about 10" thick on one side down to 5" on the other with a heat lamp on it. I just noticed the eggs today. Thanks for your input.

Its easy. She will tell you when she is ready. Basicly you wait untill you hear or see her digging alot. They will usually do it in a corner. When this happens you put her in her lay box. It might take a couple times before she lays but in my experience they usually lay the same day , unless they are stressed. So basicly keep an eye and ear out for her to change her behavior.

Good luck !

The scratching is a sure sign....they usually quit eating a few days before as well, although a few do eat right until they lay. Once they are done laying , feed like crazy and supplement with calcium very well. She may begin developing another clutch right away, and females need massive amounts of food, pretty much all the insects and veggies they want. Be sure she stays hydrated at all times, even using a spray bottle to gently spray the tip of her nose if she takes a long time digging.
