noob breeding questions

davidhref Apr 20, 2011 01:26 PM

Hi All newbie here. I have a couple breeding questions:

1) Is it ok to house 2 females/one male if one female is subadult(18g) and the other two are 35g. The male doesn't seem interested in mating so far and hasn't bitten anyone.

2) I have an 18g male that seemed like he wanted to mate with the 18g female so I have separated him because I've read she is too light. He didn't seem interested in the bigger 35g female. What is the minimum weight to breed a female?

Thanks
-Dave

You'll want to keep the young female separate from any males until she's full grown(30-35 grams). The males may not show interest when your watching them but when things quiet down they tend to become more active. You should have separate housing for all your geckos so you can give females a break from the males during cooling times,ect...You'll want to do more research before you begin any breeding.

Separate the smaller female from the older female and males. Being the smallest in the group she can be stressed out by not only a horny adult male but the adult female. Best to keep her separate till she is 35g or more.

The smaller male should be in a cage all his own till you have a breedable female for him...Do not house him in with other males at any point either. Males will fight and in the confines of a small cage, often it can be deadly.

Minimum size to breed females is 35g.
