Haven't been here in awhile

vichris Apr 22, 2011 10:21 PM

I come around and lurk a bit but haven't had time to post much lately. I had one baby hatch out this spring so far...not sure if there are more to come.

Anyway he's got a very unique shell pattern for a desert ornate.

check him out here......

And here's some that hatched out a couple of years ago just so you can see the contrast.

That is an interesting "melted gold" pattern. It will be interesting to see how that looks and changes as he ages.

Ya I can't wait to see how he turns out too. He's been doing pretty good on crickets and earth worms....I may try him out on your famous venison balls here soon Jeff.

BTW bet you got plenty of that to get you through this summer after your very successful fall last year. ;>

Believe it or not I am actually almost out of venison, that buck was the only deer I harvested last fall, never even took a doe, but I didn't get out nearly as much and I was helping a friend get his first doe.
It's about time to make a fresh batch of venison boxie balls, I think I will do that this weekend now that you reminded me. Maybe we will get some warmer weather and they will get there full appetite back, right now they eat a nightcrawler here and there, but mostly stay burried since it's been so cold at night here and no sun hardly for two weeks.

I'll be trying venison out on the turtles this year: DH bagged three, and I have a few pound of scrap bits that we won't be eating ourselves.

Good for you Steph. They really seem to like it better than regular hamburger too. Mine seem to thrive on it.

If he bags a turkey, we'll do the same thing.
