Im still thinking about collared lizards

joann42 Apr 25, 2011 06:43 PM

I keep coming back to these little guys.
This may sound horrible but Im getting tired of snakes.
I want something a bit more interactive.Im tired of dealing with rats and mice too.And I want a hobby that my 10yo son can really get into with me.He loves reptiles but is a bit scared of the boas and I cant let him near my nasty jungle at all.He has a nice beardie but I want something smaller.
I feel kinda guilty but Im thinking of selling all my snakes but one and getting a trio of collareds and a few more leos.

But I cant find any for sale so dont know how much I will need up front, shipping is always a killer but know I will have to have them shipped..How much can I expect to pay for a nice unrelated trio?
Is there a particular season that they are available?

I like snakes but never have any because I have had rats and mice as pets through my life and can not do that. :0(

You and your son would love collareds, they are colorful, sweet natured (most of the time) and active/fun to watch. I handle them all the time, I encourage people to handle my babys when I send them. I do tell people they need care, not a lizard you can feed and forget. Need to be cleaned so as not to get bacterial infections from dirty tanks, water... need to hold them in some shallow warm water a couple times a month, helps with shedding. Make sure eyes , feet , tails, vents are clean.

As far as prices they vary as far as types, how nice, pattern or colors. You would have to talk with a breeder personally through email as far as prices go. Be glad to talk with you to give you an idea . Just click my site addy below and email me.
Breeding season has begun an some collareds ( lot of mine are starting to lay eggs now, means 54ish days incubating then another atleast 6- 8 weeks until they are old enough to ship. So your talking about July for most to start having babys available.

Shipping is a bummer , running about 52.00 - 55.00 to most locales. Pretty standard for a smallish box maybe 1 - 3 lizards.

Hope I answered all your questions,,, I tried to remember them , :0)

Thanks, I'll email you.I actually had a guy that has a pair that would trade for snakes. But they look kinda ugly and unhealthy. Its hard to tell from the pics he sent though.
The rat thing has always bothered me.We do have a pair of pet rats and they are almost as smart as dogs. But I buy mine prefrozen so its not quite as bad.
