The mole kingsnakes are supposedly abundant in the piedmont of SC, but you dont see them often due to their fossorial habits. This guy was under a decent sized rock (in a clearing) and was somewhat aggressive when picked up.

What a great find the mole king is for you. It was only what, a week or ten days earlier, that you were telling me that was what you'd most hope to find this year.

I know right. It was a hatchling from last year, which suggests a good breeding population in the area. Still looking for the first eastern kingsnake though. Going to Florence area next Monday, look for more pics!

He got a lil irritated and started trying to buck up, but never bit. He musked a little though which is typical of most all the local Lampropeltis here.
