dusting feeders and feeding refusal

Stringer May 02, 2011 07:27 PM

ok.
i have a young frilled dragon. i received it several weeks ago from Ben Seigel. it is a good looking healthy animal.
Ben told me it was feeding on crickets.
after reading all the info i could on them i began to hand or tong feed after a few days. the dragon feeds very well. it will take crickets from my fingers or tongs easily. I give it treats of wax worms a couple times a week. will start on different feeder insects soon.
the issue i am having is, it will under no condition take a calcium dusted cricket. it took them for the first week and a half but since has refused anything with the dust on it.
i am feeding the crickets as varied a diet as possible. but want to make sure i am feeding a high calcium diet. what are the best foods for stuffing the feeders with calcium?
and also, has anyone else had this issue? every other lizard i have ever kept chased the dusted before the clean feeders.

Some are just very picky. I've had lizards who didn't like dusted crickets. In some cases it turned out that they didn't like the calcium I was using and others just didn't like it no matter what. You can use phoenix worms as a calcium supplement as long as they are fed as 1 meal a day. You can try a liquid calcium supplement as well but be careful not to overdose the calcium.
