Broadbanded Copperhead MORPHS

Gsc May 04, 2011 11:32 AM

Here are some quick pics of Broadbanded Copperheads. I recently caught a normal/average Broadband Copperhead so I could do some comparison photos. The Hypo/Super Hypo has been proven genetic by Robert Edwards. I'm very excited to be working with this project.

Cheers,

Awesome- Good luck. Although crotalids are my first love- Copperheads come in a close second.

those are some stunning pastels...hypomelanistic is a simple recessive gene with no super form...i have hypo and pastel southern copperheads from two different states...these broadbands are co-doms, which also means they will be easier to reproduce and keep the need for inbreeding down...

Lets see some pics of those hypo and pastel Southerns !

This is a hypo line proven out by Robert Edwards. Not all forms of hypo are simple recessive. I breed a ton of corns- take the ultra gene for example (grouped as one of the many hypo genes). Ultra is codom with amel in corns ... Different of course from these.

Hypo is just a reduction in melanin- that is the closest description that fits these..

There is defiantly a difference from our regular "hypos" and the "super hypos" ... Proven over multiple generations.

I've seen pics of what people call "pastel copperheads"... They look like nice colored normals to me- nothing like that ever came close to these! Of course this is America and everyone is welcomed to their own opinions!

Whatever you wanna call these, they are stunning. I'd love to see COMPARISON pics of YOUR ani
Ala if you get a chance to post em!

Sounds to me like you have alot of experience in breeding and know your genetics. Anyone else with any copperhead morphs, please post some pics, we can't see enough good looking copperheads !

i will try to get some recent pics of the SC pastel animals in the next couple of days...then i'll start working on gettin the texas stuff photographed...everything is together breeding, so give me a little time...and last year i put some of my animals in friends hands, so i didn't have all my copperheads morphs in one place, just in case...2 other people i trust have over half my copperheads now.....

Here's the wild caught "striped" copperhead I found last year. I gave 'em to a good friend of mine... I'm always on the lookout for oddballs!

Sweet looking animals Surfin, keep the pics coming.

TXRandy May 18, 2011 09:19 AM

that spotted one is awesome !

Gsc May 18, 2011 06:29 AM

Nice- I have seen some of your pics of venomousreptiles.org The pastel looks much better in this photo than the other's I've seen. Do you own any of Robert's animals from this bloodline? Copperheads are truely underrated!

Oops. Is that a spotted, hypo & striped group photo or are you calling that light animal a pastel? I've caught a striped animal like that here locally- VERY NEAT... The light colored animal & the spotted are both screamers!

Have you bred them? Do you have baby pics? Are they breeding as simple recessive genes for you or are they acting Co-Dom like the ones I have are?

Excellent job, Graham. Can't wait til they hit the market.

Gsc May 18, 2011 06:32 AM

Thanks Alex! Hopefully my female is gravid. Robert has been breeding them for a few years now- I've always drooled over his babies and made the plunge last year (was able to purchase a younger female and a adult pair from him)... They are one of my favorite hots....
