Can't find Christmas Mtn Breeders!

TonyT89 May 06, 2011 07:56 PM

Does anybody know someone that is breeding black Christmas Mountains this year? Don Shores, the person I always keep in mind for them is no longer breeding them. I have a nice black Christmas Mountain Alterna but he is a blair's phase. I just can not find an alterna phase for a long time. Hope to hear suggestions!

Oh wow! Thanks John! I was wondering who bought Don's Christmas Mountains. Do you know Adam's email? The second I know his email I will contact him.

I know that Tad Fitzgerald may have alterna phase dark animals this year. I am on his waiting list, I wouldnt mind a dark blair's phase. Larry Briggs may have them too.

Larry has some nice dark Black Gaps from Andrew Godambe's (Dan Johnson's) line.......
At least the one dark male I got from Larry was from that line......I also picked up an almost totally speckled female Black Gap.....I wonder if anyone has produced an alterna that is black and speckled as an adult?

John,

I've been looking for a dark black gap, a male actually that turns dark. I've never seen a really speckled or fully speckled dark male in the black gap locale. As long as it has speckles with no orange and has a chance of turning dark...I think those are hard to come by and are awesome! I've been trying to find one. I sort of talked to Shannon about it over the phone. I never heard of Larry Briggs until now. Would love to maybe inquire for dark black gaps this season!

Most definitely, I can shoot you LarryBriggs email here in a bit. He's a really nice guy and I have talked to him over the phone. Most of the locality work he has been doing is now only in Brewster County. Let me send you a email with his address.

Would you happen to know Larry Briggs email? Trying to have a good shot at a alterna phase dark Xmas mountain! Tad has great animals. The awesome thing is that his dark xmas Alterna are from the same bloodline! Here is a picture of the one I got from Don Shores in 2009. He has grown to become a real beautiful one!

Jay,

I appreciate it! I know who he is. His website is the rock canyon ranch website. I contacted him long ago but now my taste has changed for Alterna greatly. I will see what's up! Did you happen to get my email Jay by the way?

I am

I can't really call myself a breeder of Xmas right now. I have 5 WC males and NO females. Two of the males are very dark with almost no orange one is dark with narrow orange and one is nearly Black with narrow orange, the other is a light phase with narrow orange. I also have an F1 nearly black (the darkest of them all)with narrow orange. If you have a female, I would consider a breeding loan with you or anyone with references.

Everybody wants black alterna or black alterna blairs with super orange from the christmas but when somebody advertises them nobody buys them because nobody
can say that they will turn black or turn black and with bright orange.
If your going to want black christmas alterna your just going to have to buck up and buy whole clutches and raise them up and then take your pick and unload the rest.
I breed black christmas alterna and only a hand full of babies turn black in a clutch
and some are so but a$$ ugly muddy brown you don't want them anyways.
But on a side note some of the most butt a$$ ugly alterna have dropped some of the most killer alterna out there. Bottom line is if you want them your just going to have
to earn it buy breeding them because I'm not going to sell you my pick of the litters.
Alterna are like a box of chocolate you never know what your going to get.
Enough said KC

I agree with you. I never said anything about a sure fire black xmas alterna. I said I am struggling just trying to find a breeder, and others may know more people who breed them but I don't and that's why I messaged. Whether they turn black or not is a different story. I know babies just do not come out of eggs black already. They tend to look dark gray, and these have a good chance but even these can remain the same dark gray or lighter every shed. The lighter babies coming from dark parents can even turn black but maybe not either. That is why the name Alterna totally matches these kings, and that makes up a lot of the love for these guys besides the googly eyes.

As for the classifieds, I check them periodically. None of them so far are alterna phase and I was trying to find one. That's all. If I see that I would want to add the Alterna to my collection then I would jump on the opportunity. Regardless... I can't agree with you more. I'm just making a stand behind my post. Good luck this breeding season.
