baby lizard cuteness

53kw May 14, 2011 08:14 PM

Stumbled on some hatchling Banded Rock lizards and hatchling Granite Spiny lizards at a local herp show. Surprised, as such things are not often seen. They've been thriving for a few months now, with a ZooMed 10.0 bulb a few inches above their hot basking site. I have Solartech UVB and UV Index meters, and the lizards get about 60 microwatts per square centimeter of UV light with a UV Index of around 1.0, for ten hours a day. They eat Bruchid beetles reared on Blackeye peas, small crickets and mealworms. They also eat chopped pieces of Dandelion flowers. They are just old enough to start coloring up...as much as Banded Rock lizards color up--they look like black-and-white photos anyway, but there appear to be one male and two females.

No forums for them but Collared fans appreciate cuteness so hopefully no offense at being so off-topic. Banded Rock lizard in top pic, Granite Spiny below.

The crotes and petros are tuff to raise if the proper lighting is not used. Looks like you are doing a great job. Luv the little orcutti too! Cool lizards!

for the compliments. At least baby Crots are easier to handle and can be put outdoors with less fuss...sometimes--I've had plenty of chases with my baby Collareds to put them out for sunshine. More than a few chomps too.

did you pick up? What show did you find them at and how is the chuck doing?

I got one orcutti at the Taylor show. That show can surprise me.

The Chuck is doing really well. Since the onset of Dandelion season he's been chowing on fresh leaves and flowers. His cagemate, a male Aquaflame Collared, also eats bits of Dandelion from time to time. Both are in terrific health.
