UV LIGHT - COIL VS TUBULAR

Oregonherpaholic May 16, 2011 09:37 PM

Time to replace my uvb lights. Which to pick? and Why?

I currently use ZooMed compact Repti-suns for my turtles/tortoises. But I use the ZooMed Tublular style Repti-sun bulbs for all the other UV loving herps. Is there a difference? I know there was a run of bad compact bulbs a few years back, but have heard nothing further.

Is there preferred bulb for the reptile type - i.e. lizard, tortoise, etc?

AND, is there any proof that one brand is better than the other??

thanks

Check out the lighting section of the Exo-Terra website when you have an hour or two to kill. There's an amazing wealth of information in there. You should be able to find anything that you can imagine there, or at least get a good jump on it.
I heard about that situation w/ compacts near the start of using them for UVB too, mostly that it hurt/bothered the animals eyes.
