Odd Beaded Behavior

alkahoon May 17, 2011 12:19 PM

Hey everybody,
I have a 30" Rio Fuerte beaded lizard as a display animal. I have not had it for too long, but it has an odd behavior. Every so often (2-3 times a day from what I encounter) it will display a contraction that almost appears to be a cough or a sneeze, but I would not necessarily label it as such. He has a plywood ledge built into his cage that serves as a hide. When he displays this behavior under the ledge, it is with enough force to shake the entire cage. It is quite a bit of force.
I feel that i should probably take it into the veterinarian, but wanted to check here first. Has anyone witnessed this behavior? I cant imagine that it is normal. I know some lizards will engage in a sneezing behavior to rid excess salts. I dont think these guys do that however.

Thanks,
Brian
