Baby T is doing great! He came out of hibernation in March at 43 grams and is now 64 grams. Weather hasn't permitted him to stay outside yet but hopefully soon.

Does this sound like an OK weight gain? He is a great eater. I don't want to overfeed.

Thanks, Linda

I never actually weigh my animals, but if he is growing and eating well, I'd say you are doing something right. And, definitely, you don't want them to grow too fast. Turtles and tortoise are weird that way. [laugh]

Actually, that much weight gain isn't too bad. Is his shell becoming thick? IF that is so then I think you are feeding him too much.

Sounds good, maybe a bit on the high side for percentage weight gain for only 2 months time period, they grow faster when they are little though. How often do you feed him? I feed mine twice a week as much as he wants to eat in a half hour then put him back in his tub. This weekend he is going outside to a baby pen for the summer sunshine. I will have to weigh mine now just to see how they compare weight wise.

I think I am way overfeeding. My little one eats every day and eats alot for his size. He now waits in the spot I feed him as early as 6:30am. Guess I should cut back to every other day.

Thanks for the input

I feed my babies every day up until they are two years old. That's when I put them outside in the turtle garden. Then I feed them twice a week and the rest of the days they are eating worms, and other things they find in the garden. I have strawberries and blueberries that they will sit under and feed on too. Before then then spend the warm days of Summer in a planted Christmas Tree storage bin, and get fet every day.

HOw much do you feed them? I fed my first box turtle everyday when he was around that age, but I didn't really know how old he was, so I cut back. I think hers is old enough to eat twice a week or three times week. Basically once their shell start getting hard you want to cut back to twice a week or three times a week. But it's really hard to know how old they really are sometimes buying from some people.
