Probing adult Jungles

586adan2002 May 28, 2011 03:02 PM

Hello, I recently picked up a pr. of adult jungles. Just my own curiosity,I probed them. The bigger of the two probed 3 subscale what is supto be the male probed 5 sub scales. I was also told by a local breeder you cant prob carpet adults you can only pop them as babies. ?? Barkers book said females probe 3-5 sub scales ,males 8-13. Anyone want to give feed back ?? Am I missing something or is this 2 females ?? Thanks

Males of this species typically probe 8 to 12 and females 3 to 5 subcaudals. Sounds like you have two females. Popping should only be used with pythons on neonates one month or less in age. Sub-adults and adult carpets can be probed accurately by the standard procedure as with most other python species, but one should be extra careful and not force the probe. As with Diamond pythons, female Carpets could be prone to tearing and over penetration. I always carefully probe both sides twice to be certain. This helps to verify and if there is a depth discrepancy between the two sides, it can be re-checked.
