LLL and mangroves?

SCatheris May 29, 2011 11:08 AM

Has anyone bought mangroves from LLL before? I've been emailing them and they sent me pics of the group they had for sale. They looked to be in pretty good shape for WC but I also know WC mangroves from anywhere can be a bit of a risk. I'm just trying to gather from opinions to get an idea if it's something I should go for or not.

Thanks

I've had decent experiences with LLL. On a scale from 1 to 10 I think an 8.5ish. You do take a risk with WC but I've had a lot of luck with my 3 mangroves. 2 are very strong eaters and all are fat and happy. Best of luck to you.

Thanks I'm pretty excited. Boiga have been on my "list" for a while time to grab the bull by the horns.

I have 15 wc acclimated Mangroves and its been my experience the larger animals do better than juvies so get the biggest ones they have. You will need to treat them for parasites..I typically wait 60 days or so and only after a few good feedings. Treat twice about 10 days apart then again in about 60 days. I then treat annually as a preventative measure.

Of note, if you plan on breeding the females can be cannibalistic..learned that the hard way! Make sure they are of equal size at a minimum...preferably the male being larger.

I recently got a pair from LLL. They arrived outwardly healthy. One snake is currently taking f/t left on a branch overnight. The other has not eaten yet but remains very active. Hoping it will just take more time. I did discover mites on them last week and they and cages have since been treated and hopefully eradicated.
