Hello! I just got my very first Collared Lizard yesterday and I'm in absolute love! He was marked as a Common collared, he may be a different type, I'm unsure. I've attached a photo of him, not the greatest picture as my lighting in this room sucks but you get the idea! I'll post more when he's a little more settled in!

Hello....Your "him", looks like a New Mexico sub species of an Eastern Collared lizard. It also looks like a female not a male. Your him is more then likely a her.

You may be right hardcoresb3 I think "he" may be a female. She has 2 black spots on each side of her vent area which I believe is a female characteristic. I will check again today and post a photo Oh well, I may keep her name as Reptar

Actually, I did check out those sexing pics, she has 2 spots on both sides of her vent so I'm pretty positive she's a she She's sleeping right now, usually goes in her hide in the afternoon and this morning she was out and about. Do they sleep quite a bit?

In nature the hottest part of the day they usually take shelter and then come out again later. I see mone do this during the day, as in captivity they need that gradiant to be able to heat up and then cool down as well.

So I just got home from work and this may just be me being a worry wart but it looks like she has some sand impacted in one of her nostrils. I tried to brush it off with my finger but it's still there. I didn't want to try and be forceful as I didn't want to hurt her so let her be for now. I kept her lights off last night but I'm just scared to death she will get to cold. According to my temps, it was around 65 and when I picked her up she seemed cool.

Should this be okay? I'm just being your typical mom

I doubt it is sand. Was it white and crusty around the nostrils? If so they get this from time to time, just excess salt build up, lizards expell the excess salt from their bodys , usually by sneezing out through the nose. Many times you will see white splatters on the tank sides. See it more with bigger lizards but they all do it. We call this SNALT..... lol sneeze salt/snalt

If the nostrils seem clogged with the white crust, you can take a q-tip with warmish water and dab it off or should clear up by it self in a few days.
