My babies! (Photos)

My fella loves geckos but with him working away all of the time, he can't keep them. So I have volunteered to keep a pair and we got them last Saturday - the suspected female is mine and suspected male is his. They are 6 months old and I've fallen for them completely.

They have been kept together most of their lives but will I need to separate them as the male gets a little older?

Males and females can be housed together without any problems. Generally the problems arise when two males are housed together because the males tend to be territorial. Housing two geckos in the same enclosure does call for extra hides to be provided so if the female wishes to be away from the male she can. Also, during feeding you may wish to watch to make sure each gets to eat. Mine tend to bully one another (female dominates) and I sometimes separate to feed. I feed and raise Dubia.

Can I ask - what's Dubia?

And also - that's a relief because I don't think I could fit another vivarium in my room. I have two hides and the female has just eaten 3 mealworms. I haven't seen the male eat yet as he likes to hide away, but he's the bigger of the pair and they get on well. I often find them huddled up together quietly so I don't think there is a problem.

Cheers for the advice.

Keep in mind, if you have a male and female together all the time, there's a good chance she is going to be gravid all the time.

They are very much sexible now, and a male and a female can be left in the same tank together, you just can't keep two males in a tank together. I is better to keep two females too one male in a tank, and that way the male isn't pestering just one female all the time.

But there is also another theory, that you might not want the female to get pregnant until she is older in age.
