Found this little guy inside...

goober2419 Jun 04, 2011 11:28 AM

Larger image.

No idea what type of snake this in. Found him inside a house in northern VA and have been trying to ID him using this list, but I haven't the slightest idea. He looks kind of like some Timber rattler pictures I found on Google, but he didn't have a rattle. Then again, he was pretty small and most likely a baby.

It looks like a baby BLACK RAT SNAKE.They don't turn black until they grow up.I like the way they smell, also fond of VA. jenni/

Yes, as Jenni mentioned, that is a very harmless sub-adult Black Ratsnake(formerly Elaphe o. obsoleta).

Please tell me that it wasn't killed??..

Thank you both for the response!

He wasn't killed. I walked him down the street to some woods and released him in the brush.

You're welcome!

And congratulations on releasing him unharmed...
