I've heard that using pine plywood can be bad for snakes. Is that true and why?

Kind of depends, i know folks who use pine with no problems. If you are building racks with it you are OK. If you are using pine as a cage, its a risk you will have to weigh.

Over-exaggerated. Pine oils are not good, but pine plywood is not wet with pine oil, so no problem. Plus, you would be sealing the inside of a cage anyway, so even if there were oils they would be behind the sealer.

BTW, the glue in ANY plywood can be toxic if ingested, moreso than the pine itself. So the arguement is kind of rediculous. It is kind of like saying knives are dangerous while you are holding a gun.

Use any plywood you want if you seal it. Birch is much nicer material however. Costs alot now.

ROTFLOL great anology...

I agree and prefer Baltic Birth myself...little spendy but comes in 5x5 panels. Makes getting a deeper/taller cage easier without the waste associated with typical 4x8 material.

I'm actually experimenting with OSB right now, compared with whats in OSB, plywood is an angel...
