Can't find the eggs!

typherp Jun 14, 2011 07:47 PM

I know my C. melanosterna laid eggs today but I can find them. I have tried for an hour and dug up about 1/3 of the cage and had to quit because of the dark. How deep do they typically deposit? Any help would be greatly appreciated before I get out there and try to find them in the morning. The cage has 8X5 base. Thanks!

If you havn't disturbed the area where they were layed, look for some loose dirt, then slowly dig in the the direction where the dirt is loose. Because you tore up so much of the substrate already, you may have already made it impossible to find the covered hole she dug. Luckily mine lay indoors in nest boxes in the winter so finding eggs is made easy.

Thanks Mark! I started out by carefully digging in the areas she has been digging but no eggs...then I stared digging in all "loose" dirt areas and in corners...no luck! So i started to dig section by section, but I had so many visitors yesterday, I didn't get to finish.....hope to find them today.
